Why Farmers Markets?

August 2-8 is National Farmers Market Week -- a time to give some serious thought to the benefits that farmers markets generate. The Farmers Market Coalition have done the deep dives on that data, and we'll share some of that with you. For our market's part, though, here's what we consider our mission:
To provide a marketplace dedicated to the sale of local and regional agricultural products, home-baked foods, and handcrafted items; to promote and support the region’s agricultural heritage and independent small businesses; to establish a foundation for building partnerships among farmers, agriculturalists, consumers, and the business community; and to provide a “third place” that fosters connection, sociability, and civic engagement.
All that takes some hard dedication and support from vendors, volunteers, and staff, rain or shine...and of course, where would we be without visitors like you supporting these small businesses? It's a team effort!
So anyway...if you find some time Wednesday, 08/05/26, 9AM - 2PM, stop by the overflow parking lot on Talbot Street in La Plata, and look for these community teammates:
