Let's Clear the Air.

A market regular wrote in this weekend to ask, “Is it true that the vendors at the La Plata farmers market are no longer accepting SNAP tokens?”

Market fam, that couldn’t be further from the truth, and we’re not even sure how this rumor started.

But just so we’re all clear:

🔴Shoppers using SNAP and Sun Bucks benefits can still use those blue and red tokens at our market. The rate this year is still $2 Maryland Market Money for every $1 SNAP/Sun Bucks you use.

🟡Shoppers using eFMNP can shop with Rootbound Farms for the moment. We’re working with our other produce vendors to get them online as well. This process changed completely since last year, and we’re all trying to figure it out and catch up.

🔵Shoppers looking for help figuring out what nutritional benefits they may be eligible for can always stop by the Food Access Coordinator desk staffed by our community partners, Lifestyles of Maryland. They’re with us at every market.

🟣Sixty-five families came to our market on Aug. 3 to sign up for WIC benefits through Southern Maryland WIC. This is the third time our market has hosted Southern Maryland WIC, strictly to get benefits to those who need them, and they’ll be back again. We’re proud to have helped connect those families with the support services they need, regardless of where they choose to spend their grocery dollars.

If you ever have any questions or concerns about how our market serves the community, please don’t hesitate to reach out via Facebook messenger, Instagram DM, email lpfmmanager@gmail.com, or at the Market Information Booth.
